"We as a community will take care of masks," Mayor Goerges promised at a recent committee meeting after it became known that a mask obligation would come. A total of 21,000 masks were ordered by the administration, and the first 1,000 copies have now been delivered by the supplier personally to the town hall.
André Berger, managing director of edataunited in Gelsenkirchen, is primarily a software developer, but his company also includes catering and hotel businesses. Due to good company relations he was able to obtain the masks from China at short notice. Although Berger also rents eleven holiday apartments on Juist, so that there is a certain interest in getting them back into rental as soon as possible, he has always spent his holidays on Juist as a child, which is why this was a matter close to his heart. That he was the cheapest supplier of the masks was therefore no coincidence, says Berger: "I am passing on the masks at cost price plus freight costs without a profit margin, because I want to support the island in this way.
The two packages with 1,000 so-called FFP2 masks were brought to the island by Berger himself via Töwi on Wednesday. These special masks are intended for aid organisations such as the German Red Cross, fire brigade or even nurses etc. Another 20,000 simple masks for residents, staff or guests are on their way to Germany and will be delivered to the island community next week.
Henni Reinisch from the Procurement Department of the local government was pleased that such a quick delivery of this currently very much sought-after and rare item was possible: "An important contribution when it comes to restarting tourism on Juist".
Furthermore Andreas Venhoff, who is working as object planner and creative head at edataunited and recently managed the renovation and conversion of the former house "Ebeling" into the "Winkelschiffchen II" on Juist, was present at the handover. His suggestion was to give a mask set as a welcome present to all guests. The packaging with "Welcome to Juist" could be produced in the company's own printing plant at short notice.
